All-time Southern favorite, fried green tomatoes sometimes need something heavier on top to soak up that glorious grease! Stripling’s Vidalia Onion Chow Chow is the obvious choice. And, with fresh sweet Vidalia onions, red peppers, and jalapenos, you’re getting a mouthful of intoxicating flavor.
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 2 large eggs
- 2/3 c. buttermilk
- 2/3 c. all purpose flour
- 2/3 c. cornmeal
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- canola oil
- 5 medium green tomatoes, cut into 1/4 inch slices
- 1 (17 oz.) jar Stripling's Vidalia Onion Chow Chow*
Combine egg and buttermilk; place to one side. Combine dry ingredients. Coat tomato slices individually using first the dry mixture, then the liquid mixture. In skillet or sauté pan, heat oil to high temperature, so that tomato slices sizzle as they are dropped into pan. Cook each slice briefly or until golden brown. Cool slightly and serve alongside Stripling's Vidalia Onion Chow Chow.* *1(17 ounce) jar of Stripling's Vidalia Onion Chow Chow will meet the recipe requirement and leave a nice amount remaining for other uses!
